Shellac is the only resin of animal and non-vegetable origin; It is produced by insects from the group of “Mealybugs” common in India and Indonesia. Shellac varnish contains wax (approximately 5%), and is soluble in alcohol. The film it forms is elastic, shiny and adhesive. It is used as a final varnish for furniture and wooden objects.
